Plurality Needed in US Elections

Somehow or another we Americans have GOT to figure a way to get away from the current two-party dominance in the race for the presidency! To allow ourselves ONLY two major ideological platforms from which to choose, when there are so many more, is, quite simply, insane! This applies not only to the presidential race, but congressional and even local races as well.

What do I mean? Well, the Libertarian, Independent, Green, etc. parties were on most states ballots as well. Let's start paying attention to those parties and see what they have to offer. I know, I know ... Ralph Nader is our national 'nut', but really he isn't. Nader has been the consummate consumer crusader for the United States for a number of years. His impact on our safety and well-being is anything but understood, let alone appreciated. And, as the Independent candidate, he was worthy of a look. In my case, he got my vote in my effort to get away from the two-party rule and his contributions to our personal welfare.

Bob Barr and Wayne Root made up the ticket for the Libertarian Party. In case most Americans haven't noticed, the great majority of us are Libertarians - less government, more individual rights! Holy cow, how could we have missed this one? Ignorance of such a party and the bad habit of thinking of only two parties in this country. While I claim to be a Libertarian, I did not agree with the primary candidate (Barr) as being the best for this country. However, with some decent candidates, the Libertarians should have a run in the wild before all is said and done.

I have nothing against the Green Party, though it's, as its name implies, just a bit too 'green behind the ears' for ultra-serious consideration at this point. Nevertheless, it should be a party with which to reckon in the years to come.

So, Americans, how about it? Can we allow ourselves to 'get outside the box', or we content in staying with two walls of ideology - just plain ol' Democrats and Republicans? Let's scare the Brits and those in other countries who do what we dare not ... explore and elect those who are 'beyond' our usual norm.
