Toby Bradley, a trusted co-worker and friend of mine, lost much of his home due to a kitchen fire this past weekend. John, his son, posted a matter-of-fact blog regarding the fire: http://www.systemanomaly.com/blog/ See 21 June's "Fire, Fire" post.
Toby lost a lot of his worldly possessions in that fire. But, at worst, he and his family lost their most trustworthy companion of all, Jennifer, their 15-year old dog. Though she had medical problems, she appears to have passed in peace. A view by the paramedics at the fire was that Jennifer was curled in her doggy bed as if she'd gone to permanent sleep without a fuss or any frets.
